Top 5 destinations for Family Summer Holidays 2012

From now on is the right time for families to book their summer holidays, and decide where to go. You want somewhere with great value, beautiful beaches, lots of sun and plenty to entertain the kids, so where do you choose?

The Mediterraneo Hotel shows you five destinations for family summer holidays in 2012, including Benidorm.

Greece

Although the current financial crisis in Greece has caused major problems for the country, it also means that there are some great bargains to be had on cheap family holidays this year. Perhaps the best value of all is to be found on the beautiful Santorini and Kefalonia, with picturesque beaches, quaint architecture and great routes for hiking in the hills.

San Diego

While the US state of Florida has always remained a popular choice for family summer holidays, this year San Diego in California has also proved to provide great value to families. With 70 miles of fine sandy beaches, one of the world’s best zoos, countless parks and gardens, a LEGOLAND and a SeaWorld, it’s a sure choice for a great family summer holiday.

Bulgaria

Somewhere new on the family beach holiday scene in the last couple of years is Bulgaria. Still not yet with the Euro zone, Bulgaria makes for a good budget beach break. With a striking coastline along the Black Sea and stunning scenery too, it makes a great option for the whole family. Try to family friendly resort of Golden Sands with a great Blue Flag beach and check out our guide to Eastern Europe’s best beach resorts for other good resorts in the region.

Benidorm, Spain

Spain and Benidorm have always been a favourite holiday destination with the Brits and it looks like it will remain that way for years to come. Here, you’re guaranteed sunny weather, great beaches, fascinating culture and plenty of activities. Last year Spain was named by Post Office Travel Money as the cheapest destination in Europe, and this year prices have not risen by much, giving you great value too. Our hotel is a perfect option if you are looking for a Benidorm Summer Holidays 2012.

Benidorm is perfect for a family summer holidays

We remind you that the Mediterraneo Hotel is considered as one of the best family hotels in Benidorm and even de Costa Blanca.

Thailand

Thailand is becoming more and more of a family destination and not just one that caters to the backpackers anymore. Flights to Thailand may not be that cheap, but once you’ve realised how cheap accommodation, food and activities are when you get there, you may find that you end up paying just a few more as going somewhere in Europe anyways. Try the family friendly resort of Hua Hin, a favourite with Thai locals, as well as tourists from Scandinavia. The resort has lots of family activities as well as all modern amenities, such as shopping malls and cinemas, but is a far removed from the somewhat sleazy resorts of Pattaya and Phuket.

Spain and France still the most popular for UK second home owners

Spain and France are still the top destinations for British people buying a second home abroad, according to the latest search report from Rightmove Overseas. Some 21.01% of searches for overseas property were for Spain followed by 17.91% for France and 12.06% for the US.

Traditional locations in Spain such as such as Benidorm, Villamartin and Torrevieja have all seen an upsurge in interest, according to Rightmove Overseas. ‘This is probably down to the British people who like to look for property where they holiday, like many customers from the Mediterraneo Hotel that. after coming to our hotel for some years, they decide to move to Benidorm or just stay here for at least 6 months.

With Sterling continuing to hold above the €1.20/£1 level it is no surprise there is increased interest in buying in the eurozone.

Moving to Benidorm

Benidorm is still a desired place for UK second home owners

But people buying in the Balearics need to be aware that the Property Transfer Tax is due to increase from 01 May. ‘The eurozone debt crisis is weighing heavily on the European Central Bank’s and politicians’ shoulders which makes sterling appear to be attractively stable and increase in value. Buyers would do well to push through any transactions prior to that date. New build homes are exempt from ITP and instead are subject to IVA which has been reduced from 8% to 4% to inject life into the property market. This incentive came into play in the middle of 2011 and has been extended to the end of 2012.

Do you think Spain would be a nice place to live? Come to our All inclusive Hotel in Benidorm, enjoy the town and the surrouding villages and discover yourself why Benidorm is still a popular destination for second home owners.

High season at the Alicante airport

The Spanish airport authority AENA, has announced that they have received 15% more requests for flight slots in summer 2012 for the Alicante airport, which includes new operators flying to 14 of the 15 destinations that the withdrawal of Ryanair would have affected.

Although Ryanair has yet to officially respond to the latest court ruling, or to AENA´s offer to allow them to use bus connections to the terminal building, it is believed that the airline are planning to reinstate some of their withdrawn routes in March. They have listed flights on their website between El Altet and various previously withdrawn airports, including Bournemouth, Cork, Kerry and Knock.

From April, WOWAIR will offer two new weekly flights from Alicante to Reykjavik in Iceland and Zurich, increasing frequency as the year progresses with Swiss airline Edelweiss Air.

Air Berlin announced direct flights to Nuremberg, in addition to those already operating in Munich, Hamburg and Berlin.

Jet2.com will open a link with Edinburgh and increase frequencies to Belfast, East Midlands (Nottingham) and Newcastle. Easyjet will add a new route to the fourth airport in London (Southend) and Bmibaby will operate to Belfast-City airport.

The Russian market will also be strengthened this year, in line with the influx from this part of the world, with direct flights to Moscow from June 2012 with two regular daily flights operated by Siberia Airlines, which currently connects the Costa Blanca and Russia three times per week, and Aeroflot which will begin a direct route from Alicante to Sheremetyevo. In addition, the province will have from April a weekly charter flight to St. Petersburg.

Sweden will strengthen the link with Scandinavian Airlines to Stockholm from late June. Norway will benefit with the extension of a new destination launched this winter to Alesund, along with a strengthening of connections to Oslo.

Finland will have an additional frequency operated by Norwegian airlines to Helsinki, and Belgium will increase its connections with the extension of a link to Charleroi, operated by Air Berlin from this winter.

Alicante airport saw 10 million passengers in 2011, which was an increase of 500,000 on the previous year. The visitors were from groups of young friends, family holiday packages and so on. With the latest announcements of route extensions, the airport is setting its place as one of the major hubs in air travel across Europe and beyond.
